You may have heard about blackjack. You may have even played it or, at least, be familiar with the rules. Baccarat is even easier, as you don’t have to make any troubling decisions that could jeopardize your cryptocurrency bag.

In fact, in a vacuum, the edge of the House in a game of baccarat is lower than in a regular game of blackjack and is much smaller than many other casino games. 

 

 

Like in blackjack, there is a shoe – several decks of 52 cards shuffled together (six or eight decks usually, but also fewer, in some case). The participants receive two cards, much like in blackjack. The smaller cards 2 through 9 are worth their face value, so, for example, a 5 is worth five points, while an 8 is worth eight points.

The Ace in baccarat though is worth one and one point only, not also 11, like in blackjack. The face cards – Jacks, Queens, Kings – are worth 0 points in baccarat.

To calculate the value of any given hand, you simply add the points. There is catch, however. The most points a participant can have is 9. Over 10 and only the rightmost digit is considered (e.g. 10 is actually 0, 13 is 3, and 17 is 7).

The hand with the most points wins.

A Game Between The Banker And The Player
 

Unlike blackjack, you don’t necessarily play against the dealer or the House. Indeed, the game has two participants, in most cases – the banker and the player – yet, you are not bound to the player’s hand. If you think the banker will win, you can actually bet on the banker. If you think, a tie is coming up, you can bet on a tie.

 

 

In this regard, baccarat is more like roulette; the dealer only deals the cards and doesn’t actually play. It’s like watching two of your friends playing a game of cards and side-betting who is going to win.

Drawing Rules in Baccarat
 

There is another major difference between blackjack and baccarat.

In baccarat, you don’t have the liberty to draw cards in the name of the player or the banker. There are strict rules the House applies, in any given hand.

 

 

 

If there is an 8-point or a 9-point hand after the initial deal – two cards for each participant – the winning hand is announced immediately. Obviously, if both hands are worth 8 or 9 points, the result is a tie.

If there isn’t a hand worth 8 or 9 points, then, the following rules are enforced:

• Player’s Hand:
  • If the value of the two cards is between 0 and 5, the player will draw a third card.
  • If the value of the first two cards is 6 or 7, the player will stand pat.
• Banker’s Hand:
  • If the value of the two cards is 0, 1, or 2, the banker will draw a third card, regardless of the player’s holding.
  • If the value of the initial cards is 3, the banker will draw another card, unless the player’s third card was an 8.
  • If the value of the two cards is 4, the banker will draw IF the player’s third card value is between 2 and 7.
  • If the value of the two cards is 5, the banker will draw IF the player’s third card value is between 4 and 7.
  • If the hand is worth 6 points, the banker will draw ONLY IF the player’s third card is a 6 or 7.
  • If the hand is worth 7 points, the banker will stand pat, regardless of the player’s third card.

A hand in baccarat can only consist of two or a maximum of three cards, which is another major difference, compared to blackjack.

Wager Variations In Online Bitcoin Baccarat
 

The rules described above are common for the American baccarat variant or punto banco. There are other, more complicated variations, but you won’t see them online.

All will pay even (1-to-1) if you bet on the player and the player’s hand won. If you bet on the banker and the banker’s hand won, you will see two paying odds variations: either 1-to-1 like in American Baccarat Zero Commission, or 0.95-to-1 (5% commission to the House). If the result was a tie and you actually bet on that outcome, you will receive a 7-to-1, 8-to-1, or 9-to-1 reward, depending on the game.

For example, you could bet that the player will be dealt a Natural 9. Natural 9 means the player will have a total of 9 points from the initial two cards dealt. If the player receives a 2 and a 7, you will receive a 9-to-1 payout.

Furthermore, if any participant has a pair – two cards of the same value, any bet placed on the ‘Either Pair’ box will be paid 5-to-1. A perfect pair means two cards of the same value AND of the same suit are on green felt, during a dealing round.
